An investigation was underway Tuesday into the death of a six-month-old baby girl found in a dumpster in South Los Angeles.

The infant was located around 10:30 p.m. Monday in a dumpster near 5221 Alba Street, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson said.
Authorities received a report as to the location of the baby girl. Personnel from the Los Angeles Fire Department then transported the baby to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead, the LAPD said.

The baby’s death is being investigated as a homicide.
The death was not gang-related and the victim was not homeless, according to the LAPD. There was no further information available on the death.
Video from the scene shows the street closed off and police officers investigating the site of the death.
