These jobs are typical across Southern California beaches, but this help wanted solicit isn’t for a gig at the coast, but rather the desert, hours away from the coast’s sand and salt water.

The DSRT SURF Resort is hosting a job fair on Thursday, May 7, and Friday, May 8, for positions ahead of the upcoming opening of the much-anticipated wave pool.

“Be part of something unlike anything else in the desert,” the resort advertises in its call for applicants. “DSRT SURF is hosting a hiring event in Palm Desert as we gear up for our opening this summer.”

In addition to lifeguards and surf instructors, there are also positions available in guest experience, cabana hosts, food and beverage, social media and more.

The project, spearheaded by Desert Wave Ventures and Beach Street Development, has been years in the making. Local leaders gave official approval in 2022.

After years of construction, the waves are ready to start pumping at the pool. According to SURFER Magazine, the wave pool will have the technology to generate 1,000 waves per hour.

The desert has already become a hotbed for surf, with the opening two years ago of the Palm Springs Surf Club.  Another project, Thermal Beach Club, is expected to be open by 2028.

DSRT SURF Resort occupies 17 acres within the Desert Willow Golf Resort, city-owned land developed in 1998. Once complete, it will have a luxury hotel, residential villas and a 5.5-acre surfing lagoon powered by Wavegarden Cove technology.

The pool would be able to hold 60 to 80 people in the water at any given time, spread between five or six different peaks.

In addition to the surfing lagoon and the Desert Willow golf courses, the surf center will feature a surf academy for lessons, rentals and retail. The hotel will have swimming pools, hot tubs, a restaurant and bars, as well as other amenities, including a pump track and pickleball court.

The job fair for DSRT Surf is from noon to 5 p.m. on Thursday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday at Desert Willow Golf Resort in The Willows Room,
38-995 Desert Willow Drive, Palm Desert. No appointment needed, but those interested should have a resume, valid ID and any certifications.
