“We are open and staying,” read an announcement, posted Friday, June 26, to the bakery’s social media. “It has been a roller coaster lately at bakeries.”
The post went on to note that the owners read all of the comments requesting “for us to find a way to stay open.”
And that they did.
“A family member will be officially taking over French’s in Orange,” the announcement continued.
“We appreciate all the love [and] kindness we received this past week,” the post read. “We are beyond grateful and blessed.”

The bakery had planned to close its Orange location, with the final day of service slated for June 26. It will now remain open for the foreseeable future. The bakery owners also noted that customers should anticipate “new things to happen” at the Orange spot.
French’s Pastry Bakery first opened in Costa Mesa in 1965, the brainchild of Frank French, who retired after nearly 30 years. The Gonzalez family bought the bakery brand in 1990. Under the family’s ownership, the business was named Best Bakery in 2019 and 2020 in the Orange County Register’s Best of Orange County reader poll.
Menu highlights include breads, cakes, cookies, bread pudding and Wagon Wheels, a 12-inch in diameter pastry that resembles a circular Danish.
French’s Pastry Bakery once had locations in Mission Viejo and Irvine, which shuttered in 2023 and 2024, respectively. The Orange bakery opened in 2005.
