SIGMA LEAGUE PREVIEW
The Sigma League is a six-team league that includes Anaheim, Costa Mesa, Katella, Ocean View, Rancho Alamitos and Saddleback.
ANAHEIM
What to expect: The Colonists climb one league in the Orange County Football Conference from the Tango League. They finished last season with a record of 7-6, including 3-2 in league. Anaheim lost to Pioneer 14-6 in the CIF-SS Division 14 semifinals. The Colonists return three starters on offense and four on defense. Anaheim’s strength on offense is at the skill positions. Quarterback Jacob Campos headlines the returners. The senior passed for 2,065 yards and 20 TDs last fall to earn first-team All-Tango League honors. Senior all-league running back Isaac Anaya also returns after rushing for almost 800 yards and six scores. Anaheim coach Gus Martinez said senior running back Lloyd Nolasco (473 yards in ’25) could have a heavy workload because Anaya also plays safety. The team is looking for production at wide receiver following the graduation of Xavier Aviles (63 catches for 888 yards, 13 TDs in ’25). Junior Adrian Romero and sophomore Raymond Leon are top candidates. There is uncertainty on the offense line with one returning starter in junior Kevin Cuellar. Sophomore Andrew Laumua (6-0, 280) is a transfer from St. Paul. The defense features two returning All-CIF players in linebacker Jayden Sanchez and defensive end Marco Guerra. Sanchez finished second in tackles last season with 96 and Guerra had 10 sacks. Senior Joshua Sanchez is an all-league defensive back.
COSTA MESA
What to expect: The Mustangs join Anaheim in promoting one league in the Orange County Football Conference from the Tango League. Costa Mesa went 5-0 in the Tango League last fall and finished 9-2 overall. The team returns five starters on each side of the ball and features 16 seniors. The offense is led by Gavin Garza, who is one of the best running backs in Orange County. Last season, the senior rushed for 1,761 yards and 24 TDs to earn Tango League co-offensive player of the year. The Mustangs’ spread attack also features senior quarterback Matthew Barrientes, senior lineman Sebastian Suarez, senior tight end Vance Kirby and junior wide receiver Ziggy Babovic. The defense is anchored by middle linebacker Louis Arreola. The senior collected 82 tackles last season, including 14.5 for loss, en route to earning Tango League co-defensive player of the year. Kirby, Suarez and and Babovic also play defense. The strength of the defense is at cornerback with the return of Xavier Bennett and Ayden Watson, two seniors who also earned all-league honors in ’25. “(We’re) an experienced group who plays hard and for each other,” Costa Mesa coach Gary Gonzalez said.
KATELLA
What to expect: The Knights drop one league in the Orange County Football Conference from the Omicron League. They finished 0-5 in the league last season ended with a 3-7 record. Katella also went 0-5 in the league in ’24. Katella coach Dustin Hurley said his team will be “much younger” than last fall since it graduated 31 seniors. The team returns two starters on offense and two on defense. The Knights, Hurley added, have additional experience along the lines from players who played a significant number of snaps last season. The offensive linemen to watch are senior Francisco Cardenas (6-4, 320), senior Jocsan Arias (6-1, 250) and senior Adonay Garcia (6-0, 230). The key defensive linemen include Damarcus Arrington (5-6, 220) and Yosgart Arias (5-11, 200). Junior Travis Camacho (5-9, 170) returns at quarterback after splitting time last season. Junior Leopoldo Carrera (5-8, 180) is a fullback/linebacker to look out for. Former Katella coach Fred DiPalma has returned as the offensive coordinator. As Katella’s head coach, he led the Knights to the CIF-SS Division 7 title in 2017 and earned Orange County coach of the year.

OCEAN VIEW
What to expect: The Seahawks remain in the Sigma League after finishing 7-4 last season, including 3-2 in league. Their overall win total represented a major improvement after a 3-7 finish in ’24. Ocean View returns four starters on offense, six on defense and 20 seniors. The centerpiece on offense is running back Trevor Vaivao (6-0, 180), a junior who rushed for 1,148 yards and eight TDs last season. The offense also returns quarterback Dean Northam and tight end Zack Zentgraf, both of whom are juniors. Northam passed for 1,203 yards and 13 TDs last season. The defense looks like a strength with several key returning seniors. Linebacker Aidan Bond returns as the team’s leading tackler after collecting 99 last season, including an impressive 26 for loss. He joined Vaivao on first-team All-Sigma League. Safety Greg Gates and lineman Kelvin Leal are other seniors to watch on defense. Elijah Stokley is an emerging sophomore wide receiver/defensive back.
RANCHO ALAMITOS
What to expect: The Vaqueros join Ocean View in returning to the Sigma League for another two-year stint. Last season, Rancho Alamitos finished 6-5, including 3-2 in league to tie with Ocean View for second place. The Vaqueros return six starters on offense and four on defense. The offense features a balanced return at the skill positions. Quarterback Osvaldo Ramos, running back Jacob Vasquez and Joe Vazquez were each first-team all-league last season as juniors. Vasquez led the team in rushing with 338 yards and added three interceptions on defense. Vazquez had a team-high 46 catches for 592 yards and 10 TDs. Ramos (6-1, 205) is a versatile four-year starter who will play receiver and running back in addition to quarterback, coach Mike Enright said. On defense, senior safety Isaac Felipe returns as the team’s No. 2 tackler after recording 57 last season. He also plays running back. Junior Jayden Aldana (6-4, 300) is a two-way tackle to watch. Rancho Alamitos will be strong on special teams with senior Jacob Molina, one of the top kickers/punters in Orange County.
SADDLEBACK
What to expect: The Roadrunners climb in the Orange County Football Conference from the former Zeta League. Last season, they finished 10-3, including 4-0 in league. Saddleback lost to eventual champion Woodbridge 24-21 in the Division 13 semifinals. Roadrunners coach Rob Thompson said his team will be young with three returning starters on offense and three on defense. The team’s strength appears to be running back and along the lines, he said. Senior Miguel Rodriguez leads the offensive line after making first-team All-Zeta League last season. Abel Duenas and Nathan Munoz are other linemen to watch. Junior Robert Bastida paces the running backs. On defense, senior Johannes Bustos is a potential anchor at linebacker. He finished fourth on the team in tackles last season with 77. Saddleback is playing a challenging nonleague schedule with games against Sonora and Westminster, both from the higher-rated Lambda League.
