Two drivers were killed and a girl was hospitalized after a head-on collision caused by a wrong-way driver on the 241 Freeway in Lake Forest last week, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 10:35 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11 in the southbound lanes just north of Lake Forest Drive, California Highway Patrol Officer Joseph Rodriguez said.
A woman driving a Honda SUV was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes when the SUV slammed into a BMW sedan, being driven by a man, Rodriguez said. A 7-year-old girl was a passenger in the BMW.

The drivers were identified by the coroner as Norma Herrera, 57, of Irvine and Joseph Kyle Massey, 39, of Rancho Santa Margarita.

The girl’s condition was not known.
Whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash was not known.
