DIVISION 9

Vasquez (13-9) vs. Tabut V’Torah (9-6)

Where, when: Tarbut V’Torah High, 6 p.m.

Outlook: Vasquez was third in the six-team Heritage League. In the playoffs the Mustangs defeated Legacy College Prep in the first round, Duarte in the second round, Cantwell Sacred Heart in the quarterfinals and Downey Calvary Chapel in the semifinals. Tarbut V’Torah is the No. 3 playoff representative from the Academy League. The Lions in the playoffs defeated Calvary Baptist, Palm Valley, Webb and Yeshiva. The winner is eligible to play in the CIF Southern California Regional playoffs that begin Tuesday.

FRIDAY

DIVISION 4

Sunny Hills (22-14) vs. Royal (15-11)

Where, when: Cerritos College, 5 p.m.

Outlook: Sunny Hills won the CIF-SS Division 5 championship in 2022, only three years after the school started a boys volleyball program. This season the Lancers finished second to Canyon in the Crestview League with a 6-2 league record. They advanced to the championship match by defeating Santa Monica in the first round, St. Monica in the second round, Northwood in the quarterfinals and Crossroads in the semifinals. In the five-set win over Crossroads, Christian Lee had a match-high 27 kills for the Lancers and sophomore Owen Filadelfia contributed 17 kills. Royal finished second to Camarillo in the Coastal Canyon League. The Highlanders in the playoffs defeated Lancaster, Liberty, Temple City and Village Christian. The winner is eligible to play in the CIF Southern California Regional playoffs that begin Tuesday.

SATURDAY

DIVISION 6

Culver City (21-6) vs. Garden Grove (20-15)

Where, when: Cerritos College, noon

Outlook: Garden Grove won the Golden West League championship with an 11-1 league record. In the playoffs the Argonauts defeated Orange, Ayala, Capistrano Valley Christian and Pasadena Poly. They lost the first two sets to Pasadena Poly in the semifinals before winning three sets in a row to take the match. Culver City finished third in the Ocean League. Sophomore Mason Boyd is the Centaurs’ kills leader with 199. The winner is eligible to play in the CIF Southern California Regional playoffs that begin Tuesday.

DIVISION 2

Edison (21-14) vs. Orange Lutheran (24-10)

Where, when: Cerritos College, 6 p.m.

Outlook: Edison won the CIF-SS Division 1 boys volleyball championship in 2006. This season the Chargers finished fifth in the seven-team Sunset League and qualified for the playoffs as an at-large team. In the playoffs they defeated Beaumont in the first round, Arcadia in the quarterfinals and Camarillo in the semifinals. Orange Lutheran also entered the playoffs as an at-large team, having finished fifth in the six-team Trinity League. The Lancers defeated Beckman, Fountain Valley and St. Margaret’s in the playoffs. Josiah Trautman leads Orange Lutheran in kills with 360. Orange Lutheran lost to Tesoro in last season’s CIF-SS Division 3 final. The Lancers won CIF-SS boys volleyball championships in 2005 and 2018. The winner is eligible to play in the CIF Southern California Regional playoffs that begin Tuesday.
