Located on the street level of the Harbor Boulevard complex, the new shop gives dessert-loving denizens another place to pick up the quivering treat. Japanese-style cheesecakes, sometimes called soufflé cheesecakes, have risen in popularity in recent years thanks, in part, to social media, where their jiggle and airy texture have helped turn the pie into a viral treat. But the cheesecake is far more than the sum of its seemingly flash-in-the-pan parts.

The cotton-like pie is a welcome counterpoint to rich Basque or New York cheesecakes, two iterations that lean headfirst into creamy density. Instead, the ones at Uncle Fluffy and similar spots use whipped egg whites, which are then folded into a batter of cream cheese, milk, butter, sugar and more. The meringue-ified result is a lighter, fluffier and more delicate treat landing at the nexus of sponge cake, soufflé and cheesecake.

Uncle Fluffy’s cheesecakes come in three sizes, starting at $10.99. Specialty and seasonal flavors, only available in the small size, include mocha, pistachio and lemon.

The Costa Mesa locale also serves tarts with flavors like cheese, chocolate, matcha, mango and pistachio, along with macarons and mochi. All desserts are baked on the premises. On the beverage side, Uncle Fluffy offers hot and iced espresso drinks, matcha, blended coffees, fruit smoothies, lemonade and more.

“We’re excited to finally open our Triangle Square dessert shop and be in a city known for great foodie options,” said Rafik Hanna, owner of the California franchises, in a written release. “We’re in great company in the city of Costa Mesa and know our viral desserts and drinks will be embraced by the community.”

A. D. Mohra founded Uncle Fluffy in Dubai in 2017. Orange County is home to a slew of other similarly souffléd sweet spots, including Fluffy Fluffy and Burnt Crumbs.
