Those interested in running for certain local offices across Orange County this November have a few extra days to file their candidacy.

The candidate filing deadline has been extended to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, for more than two dozen offices because the incumbent didn’t file for reelection, the Orange County Registrar of Voters said in a recent press release.
The filing process opened last month. In races where incumbents were running for reelection, candidates had until Aug. 7 to file their candidacies.
Deadlines have been extended for:
• Buena Park Library District, Division 3
• Capistrano Unified School District, Trustee Areas 4, 6 and 7
• Coast Community College District, Trustee Area 1
• Cypress School District, Trustee Areas B and D
• Fountain Valley School District Board
• Fullerton City Council, District 5
• Fullerton School District, Trustee Area 3
• Garden Grove Unified School District, Trustee Area 4
• Laguna Beach Unified School District Board
• Los Alamitos Unified School District, Trustee Area 1
• Moulton Niguel Water District, both short-term and long-term seats
• Newport-Mesa Unified School District, Trustee Area 7
• North Orange County College District, Trustee Area 3
• Orange City Council, District 6
• Placentia City Council, District 2
• Placentia Library District Division 1, a short-term seat
• Rossmoor Community Services District
• Saddleback Valley Unified School District, Trustee Area 5
• San Juan Capistrano City Council, District 2
• Santa Ana City Council, Ward 6
• Serrano Water District, Division 4
• Silverado-Modjeska Recreation and Park District, both short-term and long-term seats
• South Orange County College District, Trustee Area 4
• Surfside Colony Community Services District
• Three Arch Bay Community Services District, both short-term and full-term seats
Other races on the general election ballot, following the June primary election, include eight congressional, eight statewide, 14 legislative and two county supervisor offices, according to the Orange County Registrar’s .

There’s also a Board of Equalization seat up for grabs and two judicial seats: Supreme Court associate justice and associate justice for the Court of Appeal, 4th Appellate District, Division 1-3.
California voters will also have their say on 14 statewide propositions this November.
Eligible citizens can visit the registrar’s office during business hours before the new deadline to get their candidacy documents, the office said. A candidate handbook with information about the filing process is available at ocvote.gov/candidates along with additional resources helpful to candidates.
