A Costco program that gave shoppers discounts for certain partner brands was suddenly shut down this week, without any announcement.

As of Monday, Aug. 31, the Costco Next page on the retailer’s site had a label saying, “Access to Costco Next store fronts is no longer available.” The Next link on Costco’s app was also disabled.

The “curated marketplace” program had given Costco members exclusive deals on dozens of third-party brands, including Jacuzzi, Viking cookware, Anker electronics, Paragon Outdoor, Briggs & Riley luggage and Gorilla sheds.

Products purchased through Costco Next were covered by the company’s return policies. Now, the retailer’s site says, any returns or other satisfaction issues will have to be worked out with the vendor.

A discussion of the shutdown on Reddit’s Costco forum indicated that some of the partner brands also seemed to be taken by surprise.
