ANAHEIM — Hosting the only NHL team without a point, the ascendant Ducks attempted to take advantage of the struggling Calgary Flames for the second time in four days.

After winning in Calgary on Saturday, the Ducks returned to the Honda Center on Tuesday night and saw the back half of the home-and-home series produce a 180-degree result, losing to the Flames, 4-2, in front of an announced sell-out crowd of 17,174.

Under pressure from the drop of the puck, the Ducks (4-2-0, 8 points) were outshot 36-24 and failed to record double-digit attempts in any of the three periods.

Tied 2-2 with five minutes remaining in regulation, the Flames (1-5-0, 2 points) took the lead on Martin Pospisil’s first goal of the season. After the Flames nearly scored a few moments earlier, Pospisil picked up the puck at mid-ice, faked a slap shot inside the blue line and whizzed a wrist shot from the left circle that beat Lukas Dostal.

Zayne Parekh added an empty-net finish to return the favor from the weekend in Calgary and drop the Ducks to 1-2-0 at home.

The visitors put the Ducks under pressure right away, outshooting their hosts 14-7 in the opening period.

At 8:32, the Flames snatched an errant pass across the slot by Jeff Malott and became the only Ducks opponent to score first against them this season when Adam Klapka’s wrister beat goaltender Lukas Dostal.

The Flames held the edge until a trio of minor penalties were called against them in a 3-minute stretch. The first one at 11:33 offset a roughing penalty on A.J. Greer that had been called 18 seconds earlier.

Skating four-on-four, the Ducks leveled the score at 12:09 when Beckett Sennecke poked the puck away at the blue line and roofed his shot to finish an unassisted breakaway for his fourth goal of the season.

Calgary was called for another slashing penalty a minute later, offering the Ducks’ impressive power play a chance to capitalize.

Leo Carlsson did just that, making it 2-1 at 14:05. Spinning to face the goal from the right circle, Carlsson’s wrist shot, off assists from Mikael Granlund (six) and Judd Caulfield (two), zoomed past goaltender Dustin Wolf at the near post.

The lead lasted until 8:02 of the second period.

A hooking penalty on Alex Killorn and a tripping call on Sennecke prompted a five-on-three situation for Calgary. The Ducks did well to kill the two-man disadvantage, but eight seconds after both players returned to the ice Russian forward Aydar Suniev made it 2-2 with a shot from the slot.

The Ducks were at full strength, but center Tim Washe’s stick was broken so he couldn’t do anything to break up a pass from the boards that facilitated Suniev’s second goal of the season.

Dostal finished with 32 saves for the Ducks, and Wolf had 22 for the Flames.

POEHLING OUT 6-8 WEEKS

Prior to the game, the Ducks placed center Ryan Poehling on injured reserve with a knee injury and recalled center Roger McQueen from the San Diego Gulls of the AHL.

McQueen, 20, skated with the Ducks’ third line between Frank Vatrano and A.J. Greer. The 6-foot-5 forward signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Ducks in April after being selected 10th overall in the 2025 NHL Draft.

Poehling is expected to miss six to eight weeks with an MCL sprain after scoring a short-handed game-winning goal for the Ducks in Calgary on Saturday night.

Cutter Gauthier was scratched and is considered day-to-day with an upper-body issue after leaving in the first period of the previous game in Calgary.
