A week after a San Jose man died from a brain injury he sustained at a Long Beach music festival, his family is still searching for answers about what happened.

While attending the Vans Warped Tour on Sunday, July 26, David Granado Jr. “suffered a traumatic and ultimately fatal brain injury,” according to a GoFundMe set up by a family friend to help cover medical and funeral expenses.
Granado Jr. died on July 30, after several days on life support, according to a Reddit update from his brother, Alejandro Granado.
Alejandro Granado, who accompanied his brother to the festival, declined to be interviewed, citing an ongoing police investigation. He said in a text message that he had been separated from his brother for about three hours before he learned that his brother was taken to a hospital.
“We last saw him at 5pm and we’re putting together a timeline where he might have been injured around 8pm,” Granado wrote.
Granado has been seeking information from concertgoers on Reddit, asking in a July 29 post for sightings of his brother during or after a set from the rock band Thrice. After seeking help at a medical tent, his brother was rushed to a hospital emergency room at 8:15 p.m. and underwent multiple surgeries, Granado said on the social media platform.
In a Reddit comment, Granado said Warped Tour has not responded to the family’s questions about why organizers did not alert his brother’s emergency contact when he requested medical assistance. Granado wrote that the family’s “hometown” police department notified them of his brother’s condition “over 90 minutes after he was admitted to the hospital.”
A preliminary police probe found no indication of foul play, but a death investigation is underway, authorities said.
The Long Beach Police Department learned on Wednesday, July 29 that a concertgoer was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, a spokesperson said in a statement on Saturday. Detectives were notified two days after he was hospitalized that the person died, said the statement, which did not name him.
Police said the Los Angeles County coroner’s office would determine the manner and cause of death.
