The game will be played Saturday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. at Fullerton High.

The lightning strikes began just after 6 p.m. Friday as both teams began warmups.

According to CIF rules, games can’t be played if there is lightning or thunder claps in an area. There has to be no lightning or thunder claps for 30 minutes before a game can be started or resume.

Fullerton coach Pete Karavedas confirmed the postponement due to the weather.

“We’re going to postpone the game till tomorrow night at 7 p.m.,” Karavedas said. “Obviously, you know, it’s a bummer. (Tonight was) senior night, all the festivities were great, parents did a great job, and then you want to go play and celebrate, but safety first.”

Karavedas recalled a similar scenario when lightning caused a postponement in 2018, while he was the head coach at Sunny Hills. His team was getting ready that night to play Fullerton.

“We actually, in that 2018 game, we started to play, like half a quarter and had to resume the next day,” Karavedas said. “So at least we’re going to get a full game in. With this rain and this lightning, it presents a bunch of challenges, and as much as you want to play tonight, it’ll be good to play tomorrow without any of those challenges.”
