Garden Grove law enforcement officers are moving into new headquarters in a three-story, floor-to-ceiling glass Public Safety Facility.

City leaders and community members celebrated the opening this week with a ribbon-cutting on the corner of Acacia Parkway and Euclid Street, saying the 103,000-square-foot headquarters will provide a modern “next chapter” for the city’s officers.
“Today marks a proud moment for Garden Grove and an important step forward for our city,” Mayor Stephanie Klopfenstein said. “This facility demonstrates our commitment to public safety, responsible long-term planning and a strong future for our community.”

The new police station, developed by Edgemoor Infrastructure & Real Estate and paid for with local sales tax revenue and bonds, comes with a four-level parking structure and features such as “enhanced security” and “updated technology” that officials said would better support the day-to-day work of sworn officers and staffers.
The construction included a memorial plaza for the city’s fallen police officers.

City officials have called the department’s current headquarters, built in 1972 just yards away from the police department’s new home base, “out of date.”
“Our officers and professional staff come to work every day focused on serving this community,” Police Chief Amir El-Farra said. “This facility gives our team a modern home designed around that mission. It enables us to better serve Garden Grove today while also helping us recruit and prepare the next generation of public safety professionals.”

The station is the focal point of the still-in-the-works Civic Center Revitalization Project that will later involve the demolition of the old police headquarters and raise a new Civic Center Park with a police memorial grove, walking trail and more.
Construction of the new police station required the demolition of Community Center Park. The previous duck pond was drained — its ducks and turtles moved to a rescue facility — and the park’s trees and public art elements were relocated.
