Head Trip, the two-day electronic music festival at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, has added a performance by Calvin Harris to the Sunday, Oct. 11 lineup after the headliner’s Saturday performance was canceled because of severe weather.

Attendees took to social media on Saturday night to encourage festival officials to add Harris to the Sunday lineup. On Sunday morning, officials announced the schedule update with Harris added just before Sunday night’s closing headliner, Swedish House Mafia.
On Saturday night, a message was sent out on screens and over a loudspeaker at the festival, warning attendees to return to their vehicles and seek shelter from lightning in the area. Additionally, organizers posted to social media that the show had ended for the evening. “Due to continued lightning in the area, tonight’s show will not resume. Please exit safely the way you entered.” Festivalgoers were also encouraged to check the app for updates.
Organizers had previously adjusted Saturday’s start time from 3 to 4 p.m. because of the expected lightning.
“Doors will now open at 4 pm and the show will end at 11 pm due to incoming storms and potential lightning,” a social media announcement stated.
Instead, Saturday’s show ended at 9 p.m. at the urging of a unified command that included the Indio Police Department, Cal Fire Riverside and promoter Goldenvoice.
“This was done out of an abundance of caution due to weather conditions,” police spokesman Abraham Plata announced. “We appreciate all attendees’ patience and understanding, and we thank event staff and safety personnel for prioritizing public safety.”
The suspension came with a packed crowd in the middle of a set by Under Construction, a duo consisting of Fisher and Chris Lake. Other performers Saturday included Seth Troxler back-to-back with Ben Sterling and Peggy Gou back-to-back with Four Tet. Fisher and Chris Lake were scheduled to be back-to-back with Harris.
“Ouch the one act people were going for,” X user marqueemarcc posted, “hopefully they make it up somehow.”
Sunday’s lineup was also scheduled to include DJ Harvey, The Blessed Madonna, Dom Dolla back-to-back with Kettama and Skrillex. Harris was expected to perform from 9:10 p.m. to 10:40 p.m., before the closing performance by Swedish House Mafia at 11 p.m.

The National Weather Service called for rain overnight and early Sunday, with more possible in the afternoon. Southeast winds were expected to be 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph, becoming 10 to 20 mph westerly in the afternoon with gusts up to 35 mph. Highs were expected to be 76 to 81.
Head Trip is a one-time-only festival by Goldenvoice, which follows the template of the 2023 metal-focused Power Trip and the 2016 classic rock fest Desert Trip.
Goldenvoice is also the promoter behind the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and Stagecoach Country Music Festival, which take place on the same festival grounds in Indio, California. Earlier this year, the Stagecoach faced a similar situation when it was abruptly postponed and evacuated on Saturday, April 25, after high winds disrupted the festival.
This year’s Coachella also found itself having to adjust its schedule because of the weather. Anyma was forced to cancel his Friday, April 10 night performance during weekend one because of strong winds and safety concerns. Luckily for fans, the Italian-American DJ Matteo Milleri announced Sunday, April 12, that he would be performing at the Do LaB to close out the first weekend of the festival at the Empire Polo Club.
According to the Indio Police Department, Avenue 50 between Madison and Monroe streets will be temporarily closed to vehicles and pedestrians until Oct. 19.
Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes, including Highway 111, Dr. Carreon Boulevard, Avenue 48 and Avenue 52.
The closure was ordered to accommodate festival operations and help ensure public safety, police said.
Fans can also watch Head Trip live on Apple Music (no subscription needed) and Apple TV; on @Apple Music’s TikTok account; on Twitch; and on YouTube. An audio-only simulcast will on Apple Music 1 and Apple Music Club, on TuneIn (airing the Apple Music Club livestream), and on Sirius XM.
