LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Football Club did not lose or tie on Wednesday.
Instead, the team won for the first time since July 25 to take three needed points in an MLS match.

Defeating Red Bull New York, 2-0, in front of an announced crowd of 22,102 at BMO Stadium on Korean Heritage Night, LAFC ended the night where it began, third in the Western Conference standings. The hosts (11-7-7, 40 points) held a one-goal edge for most of the night, thanks to a Jude Terry goal in the 21st minute, and did well to kill the game off before recent German transfer Armindo Sieb scored his first with the club deep in stoppage time.
LAFC’s 13th shutout of the season was goalkeeper Hugo Lloris’ league-leading 12th of the season on a night when he was required to make just one save against New York (7-11-6, 27 points).
Doing everything he could to perform for supporters in the stands, South Korean star Son Heung-min did not score or record an assist, but he was nonetheless instrumental on Terry’s go-ahead goal.
Son received the ball at the top corner of the box and, touching the ball to his left, immediately beat the quartet of defenders who were within 5 yards of him. That set up a rocket of a shot which Red Bull goalkeeper Ethan Horvath pushed away, but the rebound hopped to the top of the box and Terry coolly lined up his second career goal in three MLS starts.
The finish wasn’t as pretty as Terry’s first-time curler at the top corner in Portland last April, yet it put LAFC exactly where it wants to be: playing from ahead.
The Black & Gold improved to 11-0-2 in MLS (16-0-3 in all competitions) when scoring first as they did well to kill off the game.

Operating in the midfield, 17-year-old LAFC homegrown Terry joined Mathieu Choinière, who is the lone LAFC player to appear in each of the team’s 25 regular-season games in 2026.
Already thin in the midfield, Mark Delgado did not suit up on Wednesday. However Brazilian Igor Jesus did, returning to the fold more than a year after surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
Getting his first minutes since Aug. 21, 2025, Jesus replaced Terry at the 1-hour mark and immediately performed like the strong presence he appeared to be before the injury.
At the same moment Jesus returned, Sieb debuted at BMO Stadium when he stepped on the field for Jacob Shaffelburg.
The forward added a burst to the attack, and his efforts paid off in the 96th minute when he smashed a shot off a half volley just outside the box for LAFC’s 11th goal from distance this year.
Jesus and Sieb, both 23, are among the players that Dos Santos needs to be fit and productive during the stretch run, which after tonight includes nine regular-season games. Four of those will be played at BMO Stadium from Oct. 10-Nov. 1, following three straight on the road beginning Saturday against league-worst Sporting Kansas City.
