Mission Viejo High School is working with the Saddleback Valley Unified School District to create a permanent memorial for football coach Bob Johnson at the school’s on-campus stadium.

The school’s efforts include naming the stadium for him or the football field for him.
Johnson, who died in March at age 80, coached Mission Viejo to five CIF Southern Section championships. Before that he coached El Toro to three CIF-SS titles.

His eight CIF-SS championships put him in a tie with La Habra’s Frank Mazzotta and Mater Dei’s Bruce Rollinson for the most titles won by an Orange County football coach.
Johnson’s 338 career wins is the most by an Orange County football coach.
“We’re trying to get the stadium or field named after him,” Mission Viejo coach Chad Johnson, who is no relation to Bob Johnson, said Monday. “It’s a long process. He deserves it, 100 percent.”
