Last week’s headlines

Buffet fans rejoice: The bad news of the world receded for a brief moment last week when news broke that Souplantation was making a comeback in Orange County. Food reporter Fielding Buck shared the news that the company’s sister eatery, Sweet Tomatoes, is coming to Fountain Valley, claiming an original Souplantation location that shuttered during the pandemic. “The wait is almost over, California,” said a social media post, accompanied by a video with the year 2027 flashing. Watch this address, buffet fans: 11179 Talbert Ave.

Pool supplier shutters stores: Leslie’s Pool Supply closed 13 stores in the region in recent days, according to the Register’s labor and economy reporter Pat Maio. The retailer of pool chemicals and maintenance equipment that got its start in North Hollywood filed for bankruptcy. The company expects to emerge from Chapter 11 with “a smaller footprint and stronger financial position in early 2027.”

Starbucks-Chipotle combo: Does Brian Niccol want to marry two of his “favorite” chains? The chief executive of Starbucks and former the CEO of Chipotle apparently hired advisers to explore a possible takeover of the burrito chain, according to a report by the Financial Times (which Bloomberg quickly followed). Neither chain responded to requests for comments.
