Police launched an investigation into an alleged plot on Oct. 6 when the FBI shared information about social-media communications involving a potential threat at Corona High, officials said.
Working with the FBI, police arrested a 15-year-old student who attends the high school.
During a subsequent investigation that included searches of electronic devices and at homes in Riverside County, police arrested a second 15-year-old student who attends Norco High School for suspected involvement in the plot.
Communications discovered in the investigation indicated that the two suspects spent several months researching school shootings and hoped to carry out their own attack at Corona High School, police said.
There was no clear timeline for the attack.
The suspects discussed how to obtain weapons but had not done so yet, police said. No weapons were found at either of the suspects’ homes, and no weapons are believed to be outstanding, Corona police Sgt. Brandon Palaoro said.

Both suspects were arrested at their homes, and no schools were placed on lockdown at any point in response to the threat.
The evidence did not indicate that any other schools within the Corona-Norco Unified School District were targeted, Palaoro said.
On Oct. 6, Corona police posted on social media that they were “aware of a reported school threat” and had worked in collaboration with the school district to respond. They also announced that day that they had arrested a 15-year-old Corona High School student. It is unclear when the second suspect was arrested.
“The Corona Police Department is thankful to our law enforcement partners, both federally and locally, in assisting to safeguard our schools and community,” Palaoro said.
Both suspects remain in custody and the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office was reviewing the case.
