An e-bike rider was killed in a crash in Santa Ana Tuesday night, Aug. 11, in what was the second crash involving an e-bike in the past two days, authorities said.

Santa Ana police were called to the area of Santiago Street and Santa Ana Boulevard about 6 p.m. and found a 44-year-old man riding an e-bike had been hit by a Mercedes sedan, police spokeswoman Officer Natalie Garcia said.
The rider, Robert Pilgrim, was taken to a hospital, but died, Garcia said.
The driver remained on scene and Garcia said it did not appear impairment was a factor in the crash.
The crash followed another that occurred just past 10:15 p.m. Monday in the 2800 block of South Raitt Street, where a driver fled after hitting an e-bike rider, Garcia said.

The victim was taken to a hospital with a non-life-threatening injury to a lower extremity, Garcia said. Police were still searching for the vehicle involved.
Video obtained by KTLA showed the e-bike rider attempting to cross the street in an intersection when he was hit by a car in the Monday crash. A witness told the station in Spanish that the driver of the car had run a red light.
