This week’s Orange County girls volleyball rankings:

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL TOP 10

School, record, previous rank 

1. Mater Dei 14-0 (1): The Monarchs had one match last week. They swept San Diego’s Cathedral Catholic, annually one of the top teams in California. Mater Dei plays in the Durango Fall Classic in Las Vegas starting Friday. That is a very prestigious tournament.

2. Santa Margarita 10-6 (2): The Eagles lost at home to Torrey Pines last week. They have a home match against the top-ranked in the CIF Southern Section, Sierra Canyon, on Wednesday.

3. Los Alamitos 16-2 (4): The Griffins came into this week 5-0 in the Sunset League after wins last week over Newport Harbor and Marina. They play in the Durango Fall Classic this weekend.

4. Newport Harbor 15-4 (3): The Sailors lost to Los Alamitos and defeated Fountain Valley in Sunset League matches last week. They have league matches this week against Corona del Mar and Huntington Beach.

5. Crean Lutheran 16-4 (5) : The Saints beat Yorba Linda in a Crestview League match last week. They play a strong nonleague opponent, St. Margaret’s (12-1), on Wednesday.

6. JSerra 6-10 (6): The Lions lost to Torrey Pines in their only match last week. They do not play this week but have a big Trinity League match at Santa Margarita on Sept. 24.

7. San Juan Hills 6-11 (7): The Stallions swept Foothill in a nonleague match last week. They play two crucial South Coast League games this week, against Aliso Niguel and San Clemente.

8. Orange Lutheran 22-2 (8): The Lancers play a home match against Sierra Canyon this week. Next week they open Trinity League play with back-to-back matches against Santa Margarita and Mater Dei.

9. Edison 7-10 (not ranked): The Chargers beat Corona del Mar and lost to Huntington Beach in in Sunset League matches last week.

10. Corona del Mar 17-4 (9): The Sea Kings split their two Sunset League matches last week, defeating Marina and losing to Edison.

Also considered: Aliso Niguel; Beckman; Cypress; Huntington Beach San Clemente; St. Margaret’s.
