Firefighters responded around 2:30 p.m. to the Palos fire burning on a hillside near the 2400 block of Las Palomas Drive, where they found black smoke and flames threatening nearby homes, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. By 3:30 p.m., the fire had grown to 20 acres, according to Watch Duty, a nonprofit that tracks wildfires.
Aircraft and around 180 firefighters arrived to battle the blaze. At least three homes had been “affected” by the fire, though county fire officials couldn’t specify the extent of the damage.

Officials with La Habra Heights urged residents on Casalero, Ardsheal and West Skyline drives to evacuate, and an evacuation warning was issued for parts of La Habra and Hacienda Heights just east of the fire.
Authorities didn’t immediately know the number of homes threatened by the fire. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
