A Star Wars food cart from “The Mandalorian and Grogu” with hovering droids serving sodas using magnetic levitation could be heading to Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland before the end of the year.

Walt Disney Imagineering is developing a Star Wars food cart it plans to showcase in August during D23 at the Anaheim Convention Center and potentially debut later this year at Disneyland, according to Bloomberg.
The Imagineering research and development department in Glendale is working on several robotics projects designed to entertain and interact with visitors at Disneyland and other Disney theme parks, Bloomberg reports.

Imagineering collaborated with “The Mandalorian and Grogu” filmmaker Jon Favreau and his production team on the development of the new Galaxy’s Edge food cart.
The Disneyland food cart features hovering droids that deliver beverages using magnetic levitation at a replica of Hugo’s food stand in “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” according to Bloomberg.
The autonomous droid robots will hover on top of the food truck counter as if the surface were a stage, according to Bloomberg.
Disneyland visitors will be able to order several types of soda using the Anaheim theme park’s mobile app and pick up the drinks at Hugo’s food cart in Galaxy’s Edge, according to Bloomberg.
“Depending on the exact order, characters behave a certain way and essentially put on a show at the food cart’s counter,” according to Bloomberg. “If the guest only buys one drink, for example, the robot might act lonely.”
Hugo’s food stand in “The Mandalorian and Grogu” is operated by a four-armed Ardennian vendor named Hugo Durant, voiced by Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese.
In the film, Hugo’s food cart on the Star Wars planet Shakari serves a Flat Meat Fry sandwich made with pan-fried meat, queso sauce, electric blue onions and a hairy egg.

Kogi chef Roy Choi worked as a food consultant on the film and created the recipe for the Flat Meat Fry sandwich.
In one scene, the Mandalorian orders a sandwich at the food cart and asks Hugo for information about Rotta the Hutt.
Imagineering Senior Vice President for Research and Development Kyle Laughlin said the robotic cart technology coming to Disneyland could be used to sell dolls, toys or other merchandise.
“I think that what we’re going to learn is how to show and sell products, and if it works, we’ll continue to look at new ways,” Laughlin told Bloomberg. “It doesn’t even have to be a drink.”

Imagineering expects free-roaming robots and other advanced technology developed over the next decade for the upcoming Disneyland Abu Dhabi to benefit all Disney theme parks, Laughlin told Bloomberg.
“The goal is not to do innovation or technology for technology’s sake, but always in service of the story,” Laughlin told Bloomberg.
BDX droids in Galaxy’s Edge, Fantastic Four’s Herbie robot assistant in Tomorrowland and a walking and talking Olaf robot at Disneyland Paris have been introduced as part of Imagineering’s free-roaming robot program.
